Prioritizing the development of science in the country along with increasing demand for higher education and becoming faculty member and university's relation with industry and government has caused the growth of careerism in the role of professors during the recent decades. Besides the academic role (production and distribution of theoretical knowledge), they play other roles, too. This study aims to evaluate and determine types of faculty members in the field of social sciences. The research method is Qualitative and its data has been collected by semi-structured interviews with 34 professors of social sciences in the Universities of Tehran. The results of data analysis display three types of professors with various academic , organized, and industrial roles. Of course, this division doesn't meant exact bordering and the professors play combination of these roles, but doing duty in a certain role seems more obvious. Moreover, the findings show that professors in these roles do not adhere to scientific norms. One of the structural reasons is scientific promotion regulation and the other is commercialization of science and predomination of economy over science.
