Higher Education and Social Capital

Abstract

One of the important social and cultural policies in most countries could be the production of social capital through training of human resources. Higher education systems with the use of the assumptions of social capital and providing educational opportunities for all social groups can produce an appropriate context for cultural, social and ethical development in various areas of the public. With no doubt If this social policy is taken into account in higher education curricula it would culminate in various economic, social and cultural consequences. This study attempts to assess the amount of social capital and its dimensions among students. The research method is survey with the sample of students in the northern provinces of Iran (Mazandaran, Gilan and Golestan). The findings indicate that the amount of social capital among students is not high and moreover studying in higher education  has no significant effect on the development of social capital.
